I was not that interested in boxing and then i saw the movie and was astounded by this larger than life character.
It made actually made me do an assignment!

What a great life and insiration. Many know that Max was a Jew from Germany. Hitler was on the rise. The depression had ravaged the USA. It was a huge lift to the country. Too bad boxing is such a shadow of what it once was!

Just saw the movie and had to say, "what an incredible man Braddock was". An absolute inspiration. STILL.

I have just finished the book by Marc Cerasini. Whatever James Braddock was as a fighter, his devotion to his wife and family and his integrity to do what is right should serve as a much needed example to us all.

This is a great American story!

Loved It. I'm Reading A book about the guy now and it says in the book He was born in Jersey and it says here he is born in NYC.
This Man is My idle. I am an Under dog but when i fight i think nothing can distroy me even the bigger more experienced guy in front of me. You know what i've only lost twice out of 11 fights. I'll Respect this man in his grave for ever.
He inspired me.

I just saw the movie today on DVD and thought it was a very thoughtful and inspirational film. I have been fighting in the Martial Arts for over 20 years and can associate with his pain and desire to win.

I can appreciate the story of the american spirit and survival at such a difficult time. This story does give you goose bumps considering it leaves out a severe character flaw. Sadly the movie doesn't cover the fact that Mr Braddock and most people in this era were unforgiveably racist. Taking 10 percent of a man's purse is not a smart business decision in the case of Braddock. If his character was half of what was portrayed in the movie he would've never asked for such a thing. Irish immigriants were highly discriminated against in the earlier twentieth century. To dish out the same discrimination doesn't show me a man of high moral character. This story is easy to tell because he is a white man... Why hasn't Joe Louis' story been told? I am aware of Joe Louis' movie being in pre production with Spike Lee's 40 acres and a mule company. The same concern can be raised about Jack Johnson. His life has been reduced to a documentary.. I digress...

I am amazed by the way he kept himself after he was defeated. His courage I keep it as benchmark. I heartly appreciate his courage to come back.

I must say, I am a huge movie buff and VERY critical of movies. However, there is a new addition to the top 5 list. Just as Braddock rose up at the end to reclaim his place in boxing history, Russell Crowe and Renee Z. have both (along with the MOXIE of a great man like Braddock) escalated this movie to the upper echelon. What a great portrayal by Crowe and if this man is half of what Crowe portrayed him to be, his grandkids and family have quite a heritage and family name to be proud of. Braddock is a great example of a true American...no matter what, he perseveres through it all, pushing aside his pride and own desires for the sake of his family. I have come to know a truely great American tonight by watching this film. I never knew who directed it till the end, but then it all made sense when his name popped up...Ron Howard. Ali was good, but you won't find a better example of a TRUE American hero than James J. Braddock...determined, poised, a CHAMPION.

Going beyond the greatness of Braddock as a boxer was the greatness of the man as a husband and father! Truly inspirational..and no one could have captured Jim better than Russell Crowe..Braddock is smiling down on you!

Wow, what can i say, James J Braddock was and inspirational man, Russell's perfomance as James was nothing short of fabulous, he makes me even prouder to be an Australian.
Renee also deserves much praise for her performance. And Ron another winner.

Great story,I took my aging father and son to see the film;we loved it.My dad said Maxie was a nice guy when he met him.The story reminds us of the Irish-american experience. It is important to realize what we have put of with...I reviewed the Irish Penal Laws, what the English did to our people.Braddock is a warrior;Iam glad he did not hide his Irish pride.

Just wanted to say I just saw the movie on DVD it was a wonderful story and moving. I have a better understanding of who Mr. Braddock was and deeper respect for him and Russel Crowe for telling the story.

JJBraddock has shown what a man of courage is able to do when faced with difficulties and hard times. Instead of moaning and cursing his bad luck, he fought to overcome. Even if he hadn't been a world champion I think he would still have been a hero to his family. Great site.
Great performance by Russell Crowe and Renee Zellweger.
