James J. Braddock - Guestbook
Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.
I used to live near James J Braddock Park or "80th street park" in North Bergen. It's a beautiful oasis!

It is a wonderful story...a man fighting for his family in a time when many had nothing.

My uncle was a professional boxer in England during the late twenties and early thirties. (My dad was amateur...and cornerman to his brother)
Dad always told me about 'Gentleman Jim' among other greats of the era.
Its wonderful to find he is being immortalized on film, and the struggles of that period are being brought home to a generation which may find it has struggles of its own to face.
Russell Crowe is a wonderful actor. Its great that someone of that quality will bring Jimmy's story to life.

I remember when I was a little girl my father was in the Knights of Columbus in North Bergen and told us that he met James J Braddock at one of the functions. I honestly did not know who he was but learned all about him when Hudson County park was renamed James J Braddock park.

I cannot help but make the comparison between Mr. Braddock and the legendary Seabiscuit. If there were ever a one-two punch to brighten the dark corners of our current days, it is the courage and determination of these two champions. Can't wait to see the film.

I met Mr. Braddock while playing babe ruth baseball in north bergen.his son played on our team and he helped coach our team.I really didn't know about his accomplishments untilthe season was nearly over. my dad told me the story one day to me . funny he was just coach jim to us never bragging about his past. this movie makes me extremely happy because i now live in california an always told my friends out here i once played baseball for a heavyweight champ back in jersey.they would always just lAUGH AT ME and doubt my story.guess i get the last laugh here. about time they told the story of a real champ. jersey may be a small state but we carry a big fist.

This site made me smile when I came across it. A long lost relative I believe on my mother's side (Mullins). Not so lost but always remembered as yet another strong "Irish Man". Strength and loyalty to his family that runs thick in the blood he has past down to all fighters. I got his right down pat for a lady! 24 and my Irish blood still fires up at the thought of throwing a few punches to keep myself from looking like a "bum".

I was lucky enough to be at a screening of the movie - Cinderalla Man last night with a Q&A afterwards with Russell Crowe & Ron Howard.
I must say that even non-boxing fans will enjoy this movie because of the down to earthness of the main character - James J. Braddock. He was always doing whatever it took to try and keep his family together in spite of the depression and the bad luck he was having. My congrats to everyone connected with the film and his family should be proud of their Dad.

James was such an inspirational individual, I recently saw the movie and wish that I could have met this wonderful individual in person. From reading and viewing the movie, he seemed like just the exact man I want to be.

When I was young living in San Francisco many years ago, the old timers who been around boxing all their lives would tell stories of the past boxing greats. I remember two fighters in particular, Billy Conn, and Jimmy Braddock. I wish I could remember the old fellow's name, but he brought in and old scrap book and showed him poseing with Braddock at one of his training camps, as he was one of the sparring partners. He said that there wasn't a man of more charactor than Jimmy Braddock, and he may not of been the greatest champ of all, champ of all, but few had his heart, guts, and love of his family as James J.

I am sure that Jimmy's two sons Howard and Jay willnot remember boxing with me in 1935 at the aparmtnet building we all lived in at 235-75th St. North Bergen. I remember teaching them to box.

I amazingly saved an autograph by James J. Braddock when as a teen I met him at a benefit that was held at the Jersey City Armory on Dec. 9, 1949. The cause was to purchase a snowplow for a town in Italy called Capracotta. Many celebreties were there but he was one who siged an autograph for me. I still have my ticket as well that says Carnival for Capracotta. Does anyone else remember that event? Pat

I've been a fight fan my whole life. I heard stories of Jim Braddock and I am exited to see the movie. I hope it is as inspiring as Jim Braddock's actual life. As a new boxer I always enjoy being inspired especially since I started boxing at 30 years old!

I am not a relative of Jim Braddock's but my Dad often spoke of him (and Jake LaMotta). We lived in Jersey City and had cousins from North Bergen. Didn't Jim own a club in Union City -- Top Hat or something like that. Can't wait to see the movie on the 3rd!

I was thrilled that they filmed part of the movie in Toronto. Can't wait to see it. By the way, that picture in the photo gallery couldn't be Braddock and Harry Truman as Braddock seems too young.

My Father was an avid boxing fan listening to Friday night boxing weekly. He loved to talk about the Irish American Boxers, and Jim Braddock was the one I heard the most about. He was so impressed by his accomplishments.
You can imagine my surprise many years later when I married and found out one of my husband's sisters was married to Howard ,a son of James J. Braddock.
We are looking forward to the movie of a great boxer and a great man.
