Just viewed the movie for the first time and I could not help but to equate this story with another inspiring athlete of that time --Seabisquit. James Braddock was truly an amazing man, father and athlete ( in that order). I will show this film to my 11yr old son in hopes that he will see that when times seem to put you down & out --- you must never give up and keep fighting.

I have seen the movie twice already. Usually, I wait until they are used and buy the DVD, but I went out and bought this one.
For ten years, GoodFellas has been my favorite movie. I have to say that this movie has upset the order.
What a great movie.
In fact, I told my coworkers to rent it. If they didn't like it, I would reimburse their rental fee.
Five people have seen it, and not one has asked for their money back.
This is one of those movies that everyone should have to see.

As a teacher of film study at a Catholic high school in a suburb of Chicago, I am constantly looking for appropriate films to include in my class syllabus. Keenly aware of language, gratuitous violence and sexual innuendo, it has increasingly become more difficult to find movies of worth to show my students.
May I say that the story of James Braddock, as it has been portrayed in the film by Ron Howard, is one of the best films I have shown this semester. The students were completely engaged and many said it was the best film they had ever seen. With the amount of garbage currently being produced on the movie screen, it is refreshing to see a story of a true hero--no special effects, just great filmmaking. I am grateful that Ron Howard continues to make films of this quality.
Young people today have so few heroes in their lives. If the late Jim Braddock can inspire a new generation, then this film is a fitting tribute to a great husband, father and sports figure.

Just a note of thanks for sharing this information about your grandfather. My wife and I recently enjoyed the movie and it was a tremendous tribute to an honest and honourable man.

I wanted to thank Ron Howard for bringing such a poignant story to the public. Three kids and not enough food to put on the table. In the movie a tear jerker at least 10 times if you have kids--in real life I cannot even imagine the impact on a day to day basis. This story needs to be told, and retold, and retold. Truly inspiring. I can only hope to react with as much courage in the face of fear.

My husband and I watched this movie today and for two hours we were captivated by this moving and inspirational story of Jim, his family and the country as a whole during the 30's. Thank you for sharing this wonderful human interest story with the world. It's the best movie we have seen in a long time.

My grandfather's ring named was "Chick West". His era was 1910- 1921. He was the New England Welterweight Champion from 1913-1915. He only lost 7 out of 138 fights. He also was never knocked-out nor stopped just as the great "Cinderella Man " James J. Braddock. He took on all challengers including England's Lightheavyweight Champion Tommy Robson on February 10, 1917 in Boston Mass. "Chick West" spotted Robson 35 pounds that day due to some good ole English trickery with Robson's trainer weighing in for him. Chick West went the distance in a 12 rounder that day. The last three years of his career he fought totally blind in his right eye. He later championed for both the sport of boxing and the blind. In my humble opinion "Chick West" should be considered for a place in the Boxing Hall of Fame.

My husband and I rented this movie and will now purchase it for our young kids to view. This is an inspiring example of how to live your life; to the fullest, with integrity, with faith, and with your family at the center. With all the hardships endured during the depression, our kids need to see life before the expectations of cell phones, lap tops and ipods. What mattered could not be measured by material goods, but by your character. God Bless the Braddock family and thank you for sharing your inspirational story.

This movie is one of the greatest Christmas presents I have ever received. James Braddock was everything a man/father/husband/American should be. A truly great man and inspiration.

No doubt that Mr. Braddoock was a great man. But sometimes movies twist the real story. Nothing worng about Mr. Braddock, but seems the movie does not reflect the true about Mr. Max Baer. Links are not allowed, so just google for "MAX BAER" to read about the real man.

Said that, the film inspires one to keep fighting, never give up.

Exelent web site, great photos.
