I could never have imagined such a story. This man showed everybody the way to follow. This kind of man could give you the inspiration you sometime need...

i thought that it was a great movie when i saw it in theatres. i decided after seeing it to do my semester report in my history class on him. the report is supposed to be on someone that influenced people and how they changed the world. james j. braddock showed everyone that they can become anything they want to be, no matter what odds are against them.

I must share - my heart is full. Wish I could of known this man. His inspiration is what us Americans are all about. Have we forgot? Watch the movie and learn the lesson. God watches over us but Jim shows us how to live... Thank you Jim - we needed that. Sincerely,
Judy

My wife and I watched the movie Cinderella Man last night. Got to say it was one of the best stories I've ever heard. I am not a fan of boxing, but could feel (as was attributed to others at the time, in 1935) the same sense that Jim was "boxing for me." It goes to show that every act of courage and determination makes ripples that last forever, and help move society into a better direction. I was left wondering how much longer the Great Depression might have gone on had Jim not been able to do what he did, and thus others would not have had the courage to fight their own battles. The site is great - much better than a movie promo.

Is it true that Braddock was only KO'd once in his career?

I watched Cinderella Man in my high school history class while learning about the great depression. What an awesome portrayal of his life as a boxer and his personal life through the great depression. Currently, I writing an essay comparing the movie to the presiencies of Herbert Hoover and Franklin D. Roosevelt. reading about the times of the American people and what Braddock had to enduer sahows how couragous he really was. If you read this, scroll down to Ann Mcenery's message. Hers really gets to ya. TO ALL: WATCH IT AGAIN!!

Along with the other messages previously stated, James was a extreme family man and it was truly an honor to gain some tips from an all-american hero. No one can honestly say that they have ever had to send their kids away for not being able to support them. He is, not was, and will always be an encouragement to America and the world.

I watched the dvd 'Cinderella Man' last night and wasn't aware it was a true story until I had put it on. I was so touched by his perserverance to keep his family and provide for them. What a great man - an inspiration to us all. I had to look him up on the net and found this wonderful site. I want to know more and will be reading his biography. His family must all be so very proud. God Bless.

Even though I'm just another number in the chain of those who have posted here, I count it a priviledge to be able to add my voice to this place of honor for Jim.
Obviously he had a number of "issues" that were a nemesis to him in his life. Whether arthritic hands or the Depression of the late 20's and early 30's, he had the tenacity and honor that I'd like to think "I" have as well, to be a provider for his family at all cost.
I didn't see the film on his life until yesterday (1/06) but it was certainly worth seeing.
Best wishes to all surviving family members, and to the members of his family that participated in the film, both as actors and as consultants, I'd like to say "thank you" for making sure that his memory is honored with accuracy and dignity!

Just watched Cinderella Man on video, wanted to learn more about the man, but I was not aware the movie was a true story. What an exceptional story his life is, and you have a wonderful tribute to him at this site.

I got to say I loved the movie. Right when i got done watching it I came right on my computer and looked him up. He seems like such a great man. It would of been a priviledge to know him and I respect him. Even though i am a girl and only 16 years old he inspires me. I told my dad to go buy a punching bag for me to practice lol. I think it would of been soo cool to be a part of his family. You should definitely feel honored.

James Walter Braddock was portrayed as a "real man" who put his wife and children first. This Godly Irish family and others who struggled through the Great Depression are the reason this country was so strong in WWII and stopped Nazi aggression.

I would just like to extend my emotions after viewing such an inspirational life story. What a decent, persistent courageous man! he loved his family very much and made sure they were all taken care of, even if it meant possibly losing his life to an opponent in the ring.

My father, Dominick Gravine, worked with Jim Braddock on the construction of the lower level of the George Washington Bridge. (My father was an Italian immigrant coal miner from Scranton, PA, who moved to Jersey City in the 1940s.) My father told me what a kind and generous man Jim Braddock was, especially in their memories of boxing. (My father was an amateur boxer.) My father's nickname was Mickey; Jim assumed that Mickey was short for Michael, so he always called my dad Mike or Michael. When my dad asked Jim about his title defense against Joe Louis, ('when he knocked you down, Jim, could you have gotten up?') According to my father, Jim said he could have gotten up but he thought "the son-of-a-bitch might kill me." I wish I had known about the movie Cinderella Man before it was finalized. My father had interesting and warm stories to tell of James J. Braddock. Married to a woman of Irish descent, my father was proud to say he had worked with Jim Braddock, another fine Irishman.

Great movie...better life story. Character and values.

Why was a movie about Joe Braddocks life so delayed? With all the Rocky movies in the 70's and 80's, one would think that a movie would have made sooner, especially when based on a true story.

I, like many have seen "Cinderella Man". Not only was this movie an inspiration but more importantly J.J Braddock was a hero. If all of us could have the class and loyalty this man had, we would all be champs.
