James J. Braddock - Guestbook

James J. Braddock, World Heavy-Weight Champion

Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.

Cinderall Man has to be seriously considered for an Oscar for best picture of 2005. I was inspired by the honesty and integrity of Jim Braddock and the courage he demonstrated in dealing with all of the adversity he faced in life. Several people at the showing I attended were in tears at the conclusion of this movie. I consider this film to be the best boxing movie I have had the privalege of seeing in 55+ years of going to movies!

I just came home from seeing the movie Cinderella man. I am deeply touched by the courage of James Braddock through such adversity. I am not a fan of boxing but I a fan of life stories that inspire. The Braddock family should be very proud!

My wife and I saw the movie last night and enjoyed it very much. Your grandfather was a remarkable man. This website is excellent and a great tribute to a fine human being.

I saw the movie the other night and wanted to know more about your grandfather and what happened to the children. Thank you for maintaining the website. The movie was wonderful and I'm sure that he is proud of the story and what you have done in his name.

This was the most touching film I have ever seen. Mr. Braddock was a wonderful family man and did anything in his power to take care of his family. His wife was very true to him and stayed by his side during the good and bad times. More families should be like the Braddock family. Thank you for being such an inspiration to people when they really needed one.

Saw the movie last night with my wife. One of the best movies I have ever seen. James Braddock as portrayed in the movie shows what a true male role model is all about. In this day and age this move and this story are needed more than ever. As a public school administrator at the high school level I have seen over the last 30 years the decline in positive male role models and the direct effect it has played on our families our culture and our country. The James Braddock story sets a standard for our country and our families. You can be sure this movie and the James Braddock story will become part of every high school curriculum in the U.S. Thank you Ron Howard et al.

Saw the movie last night and logged onto your site this morning. How wonderful to be able to see the real man and his family one began to know during the movie. Your site is one of the most complete and well done that I have seen in relation to historical figures and their portrayal on screen. Thank you for adding insight and helping to satisfy a history buff's search for the facts.

This movie should be required watching for all young American men. James Braddock is the real man role model who loves his family and does what ever it takes to provide for them with honesty, courage, hard work, humility and guts. Bravo!

As a longtime boxing fan, I'm inspired by the Braddock story. It's wonderful to see that, despite the hand he was dealt in the Depression days, Braddock was still able to surround himself with a strong wife and loving children. A true 'Damon Runyon story' if there was one! God bless the Braddocks of then...and now!

I grew up hearing stories about my great-grandfather, James J. Braddock. Obviously, I never had the privilege of meeting this great man face-to-face, but what a great movie depicting his life. I am so proud to be (however far down the line) an offspring of this courageous, gentle, giving human being. What a great movie and story about this man's life.

I saw the movie "Cinderella Man" on the last night it was showing in our local theater. What an incredible man Jim Braddock was and what an inspiration to us all!

The name, Jim Braddock has been rolling around in the back of my mind for years, as my dad was an avid fight fan, living in the hard coal regions of PA. I am not a fan of fight movies, but went as my friend wanted to see it, and was very very glad I did, because it was a wonderful story, and I found it very inspirationa.. With Ron Howard as director, it had to be good.

My husband and I went to see "Cinderella Man" even though I am not a boxing fan. I heard of Max Baer and Joe Louis, but not of James Braddock. We both enjoyed the movie and were so glad that the ending was happy. And the first thing I did was to look up this site like other people have mentioned. A wonderful story all around. Thanks!!!

I went to see Cinderella Man with my 11 yr old great nephew last night. He is really into boxing and really wanted to see this movie. I'm not boxing fan, but I went ahead and went.

I'm glad I did. What a great story! I didn't know one thing about Mr. Braddock, but as soon as the movie was over I came home and found this website.

Thank you for giving me a glimpse into this wonderful man's life. The movie made me cheer, laugh and cry.

God Bless

For our monthly Friday night outing, one of our group said she had seen Cinderella Man the previous weekend and that it was "wonderful" and she wouldn't mind seeing it again. I am really not a boxing fan or a Russell Crowe fan, but I thought if she thinks it is that good, we must go see it. So, we decided to grab a quick dinner and go see the movie. What a great decision! We all enjoyed it immensely. I definitely want to see it again and get the DVD when it is released. Although I know some of the story was "made up" because who could possibly know the intimate things that happened in that family during that time, I think the story was very well told and believable and I want my 12 year-old granddaughter to see it because it is a great history lesson. The depiction of the depression years was so real and it really hurt to remember that my own parents went through those years and had the same kinds of problems - no money, no food, my dad working on other peoples' cars just to survive with 2 children, although I really never realized that we had nothing - I thought we had everything. It was only after I was much older that I realized I grew up during the depression and we had nothing. Oh, what a wonderful generation they were, the likes of which I am afraid we will never see again.

My wife and I went out last night to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary. After going to dinner, we wanted to see a good movie. We went to a local multiplex theater. I was thinking of seeing Batman or Star Wars, but I knew that my wife wouldn't enjoy them as much as I. I asked the girls at the ticket counter what my wife might enjoy. They said without hesitation, "Cinderella Man." They also said that I would enjoy it. They were right! It was one of the best movies that I have seen in a long time.

I liked it, because it was a true story, and it extolled positive virtues and human values. I especially liked it when he had his son return the stolen salami, and also when he repaid the welfare money that he had received.

I also liked the fact that his family was important to him. He loved his wife and kids!

I was born in 1939, so I don't know a lot of information about him first hand, but it did bring back a flood of memories of listening to the Friday Night Fights sponsored by Gillete on the radio. I can remember being 4 and 5 years old, staying at home with my baby sitter, and listening to the Friday Night Fights, and role playing the action.

Thanks for a great story! James J. Braddock was a great man!

Thank you for a most comperhensive site. I am not a boxing fan by any streatch of the imagination. But I love human stories such as your grandfather's. I am glad for the ability of Hollywood to turn out movies now that give us hope today taken from the pages of history.
What makes these movies great is that they are about real people doing great things at moments in their lives where they could just give up.
My son and I just watched the movie and I would like to thank the Braddock family for inviting us into their lives.
Truly a great man. I only hope to do as much for my family to be looked on with such admiration and appreciation as Mr. Braddock was by his family and friends.
GOD bless us all....... We need more people like Jimmy.
