James J. Braddock - Guestbook

What an inspirational movie. Boxing is not my favorite sport, and although I love movies, I was hesitant to go to the movie because I was afraid the story was going to be sad like Million Dollar Baby. I don't know much about great boxers, but I was so glad to watch this movie, although I did not know the outcome of the fight with Baer and spent time in the movie aisle just in case Braddock was killed, I would have a quick exit. When I came home I told my husband (not a movie goer) about the movie and of course, being a man, knew about James Braddock. He wants to see the movie, so I am sure I will go and see it again, and I'll see the whole movie.
I was struck by James Braddock's sense of family, his integrity and his love for his nation, even though he was one of the people who lost everything he had. I can understand how the nation rallied behind him for his fights. Had I been alive, I would have too.

Jim Braddock's story shows what is missing from many of today's pro athletes...Character. Being a man of integrity, and self control, should be the foundation of every pro athlete. This man's story should be required reading by all highschools.

I just seen the film and was amazed by it. Braddock's story was completely unknown to me until the film. I teach history to special needs high school students and plan on showing them the DVD when it comes out. Hard work and never giving up, no matter how bad things are going, are attributes the youth of today can learn a lot from. The film shows the way the Great Depression really hit America and how Braddock was an inspiration to million.
Thank You for the great website and carrying on the story.

I just got home from watching the movie. I hope this film will show people what real "hard" times were like. Too many folks today not only readily seek out public aid, but demand it as something they feel they are owed. The Champ's belief in hard work, family, and America are an example to us all. He and men like him are the reason they were called " The Greatest Generation".

Today is fathers day. So my wife and children wanted to see the movie chosen by me. I am extremely impressed by the character and the principles of James Braddock. He was a great boxer too. His descendants have every reason to be proud of him. This country is greatful to have his parents.

Thank you for sharing the inspirational story of the heroic champ. For me, boxing was the subplot of the movie, the real story was the strength of character of this fine man.

Just took my family to see this great true story, "Cinderella Man" on father's day. In this age of male......father bashing on every TV commercial and furthered by almost every other interview and remark out of Katie Couric's, and Oprah Winfrey's mouth, among others, it was good to see Mr. Braddock's story.

Thank you Ron Howard for yet another amazing journey. The one thought that kept running through my mind as the story of James Braddock unfolded was how much of his generation would do anything to avoid a hand out and how so much of todays generation would take a hand out to avoid doing anything. By giving our kids too much we sometimes do them a great dis-service. Getting the chance to deal with and rise above adversity can give you strength you never knew you had.

I watched Cinderella Man last night with my boys. Ages 10 and 12. I thought they were going to be bored, because it wasn't " action packed". Instead, they loved it. I loved it too. It was the best movie we have seen in a very long time.
The love that James Braddock had for his family was unbelievable. If only there were more families like that in the world today. The world would be a much happier and safer place.

My wife Maria & I just saw the great Ron Howard movie Cinderella Man about James J. Braddock. It was a terrific and inspirational story about one's belief in themselves and taking advantage of "second chances". It just so happens that my wife's uncle is Dan Bucceroni, who, himself was a heavyweight contender for the world title and fought in Madison Square Garden as well. He is from Phila., and at his height in the early 50's rated #2 in the world behind Rocky Marciano. This movie held special significance to us because our "Uncle Dan" was one of many sons of Italian immigrant parents just like his brother Bill who happens to be my father in law. Men like this show toughness and fortitude in their lives and a whole lot of class.
