James J. Braddock, World Heavy-Weight Champion

Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.

Thank you for creating this website and sharing memories. I watched the movie with my family on Father's Day. He is remembered as a champion boxer; perhaps this movie will establish his legacy as a champion father and role model to us dads trying their best.

Just saw Cinderella Man and it was a compeling, emotional movie. It was so good to see what a man will do for the security and survival of his family. It is a lesson all young atheletes should aspire too. A one of hope, heart and optimism. This man conquered fear and adversity and deserved the title of World Best.

Just saw Cinderella Man for the second time around. Remember my mother telling me about how James Braddock fought Max Baer, when the Beverly Hillbillies were new to TV and she realized Jethro was Max's son. Braddock's work ethic, love of family, and determination spread a beacon of hope to downtrodden, disheartened Americans. Who can say how much his triumphant victory that night in the ring with Max Baer affected the hearts, souls, and spirits of millions of families, just before the advent of WWII. After so many suffered through the Great Depression, he inspired so many young people to persevere and strive for the best they could do for themselves, their families, and for their country. God always makes a way for good to triumph over evil! Great movie-hope it wins the academy award for outstanding performances, as well.

Braddock is a hero, not because he could win fights, but because he had the courage to win the fight of honesty and decency during times that tempt men otherwise. Great movie. A "real" Rocky who fought not for his self-esteem but for something he loved more than himself - his family.

I saw Cinderella Man last night with my husband. What a wonderful movie. I told my husband that it was like watching a Rocky movie, only better

I just saw "Cinderella Man" today and was very moved by Braddock's life story. His persistence and courage during a time that already demanded these qualities in large supply--simply for basic survival--inspires those in better times and circumstances to reach for greatness.

Thank to the Braddock family and to Mr. Ron Howard for this out standing film.

What an inspiration that Jim and his wife Mae are to all of us who cherish the virtues of hope, devotion, honesty, humility, and courage so well portrayed in Ron Howard's Film "Cinderella Man". Their marriage and family dedication re-displayed like this before modern audiences should get us all to realize what should be cherished most in our lives.

I met Mr. Braddock in 1968 or 1969 when I was a young amateur boxer being trained by Pete Petroski and Kenny Lane. Pete and Kenny were putting on a boxing match at a local high school with an outside ring at night. Mr. Braddock was the guest of honor and I was introduced to him by Kenny Lane. Being a young boxer and a young man Mr. Braddock was very engaging, he asked how I was, where I went to school, etc. It seem to me for a famous person he wanted to know more about me then talking about himself. This was my first time meeting a celebrity and will always remember James J. Braddock as a great guy!

The movie was inspirational! The fight scenes were top notch and Russell Crowe should win an Oscar! The Braddock family should be very proud!

A great story about a fine human being. The movie was terrific, even if they did overdo villainizing Max Baer. Look him up at Wikipedia for details.

In defense of Braddock in an earlier entry, what was wrong with capitalizing on his box office appeal? Joe Louis agreed to the deal, also, presumably because he knew that Braddock was a good draw.

Jim Braddock lived his life consistently for the benefit of his family. He always put them first. And that is something any man can do. He is an inspiration to me.

Thank you Ron Howard for bringing this story to the "big screen" for all to see! I just returned from the movies (1 am) and wanted to know more about the life of James Braddock and found this website. It is just wonderful that his family has kept his memory alive by sharing through this site. I will tell everyone I know to see this movie as it touches beyond boxing - it is a movie that reflects upon maintaining one's dignity, morals and strengh through the hardest of times. Amazing movie and story!

I just saw the film Cinderella Man this evening, truly poignant.
I was with a friend who was related to Frankie Campbell, being the brother of my friend's paternal grandfather.

James Braddock was born 3 years before my Father and 5 years before my Mother. I truly believe that if it weren't for the courage, strength and values set by that generation, our country would have collapsed. James Braddock is a shining example of that generation. I'm so proud of my parents and what they taught me. We must teach our children about them and those times. It is truly one of the best movies I've ever seen.
