James J. Braddock - Guestbook
Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.
Last night I saw the movie Cinderella Man and never had I seen such an amazing movie that depicted the life of someone so amazing. I think it was really important that this film was made because many people (younger ones) would never have known James J. Braddock and his incredible story.
Another reason the film was probably so good was director Ron Howard!

In the early 1960's, I was a "Hudson River Rat" in North Bergen, N.J. On River Rd. there was a diner called Rosie's. Across the street, on the river side of the road was a business called "Braddock's Dry Dock". My friend and I went into the office looking for some work to make lunch money. The man in the office said he had work but couldn't pay us. Instead he offered us each a voltmeter if we were to clean out a storage closet. We figured we could sell it for cash so we did that for about 4 or 5 hours. When we done, we went to the office and as the gentleman was giving us our "pay" I noticed pictures of him as a prize fighter on the wall. I asked if he was a boxer and he said he had been years ago. He never told us he was at one time the champ and we, stupidly, never asked anything other than his name.
He simply introduced himself as "Jimmy Braddock". It wasn't until he died and his story was told in the newspaper that I remembered meeting the "Champ"

My Father was a conteporary of Mr. Braddock hailing from Kerry Head in Elizabeth, Nj. He had the pleasure of going a few rounds with the Toy Bull Dog as did Mr. Braddock. Really enjoyed the movie.

As Ronald Reagan said, "where do we get such men?".
This is truly a man with morals and a sense of what it means to be an American. I can't tell you what a blessing the movie, and this man's life has meant to me.
I hope all is well with the Braddock family. He is an inspiration to us all!

Hello my names Christy iam a 15 year old girl. I loved the movie. I felt like i was right there beside Jimmy cheering him on during the whole movie. It really caught my attention on how sweet he was. What a great guy to care n give respect to his family. All i can say is Jimmy was a great man i wish he was my father it would be an honor. Too bad there arent many men out there in the world today like James J Braddock. It would do this country good. In loving memory of the "Cinderella Man" Sincerely, one of your biggest fans

What an amazing story! Mr. Braddock's story was inspiring. It is unfortunate that so many of today's professional athlete's are known for their indiscretions and unlawful activities. Mr. Braddocks story should be played in every locker room as a model of integrity, courage, and humility.

Great movie; the character of the man and his story, is what makes this country great. As a veteran and a 25+ year member of the Operating Engineers Local #12, thanks for sharing this with everyone.

Mr Braddock's stature was even greater outside the ring then inside it!
What an inspiration!
I also liked the way the movie portrayed him and his wife as multidimensional and very focused on family first.

I just saw the movie of Jimmy's life
& hardships. I must say I was so moved. I cried, felt joy and left the movie thinking what a wonderful person James Braddock was. His love
for his family endless, his love of boxing and how brave & gracious a person & kind hearted even in the worst of times. I can only say I would have loved to have known this giant of a man.

I saw the movie about James Braddock's life a couple of days ago and consider it the best and most impressive film I have seen in several years. Mr. Braddock was an inspiration to all men with families and his story has a timely message for all of us just two days before Father's Day.

My son Tadd and I saw the movie two days ago. Most of the current movies have no story line (concentrate too much on special effects). However, we both really enjoyed this movie. As a depression baby, I related to much of what the family endured. My parents followed boxing (on a tube radio--battery operated), but the first heavy weight I remember was Joe Louis--so glad the story was told. People of the era were special, they overcame great adversities. I worry about today's youth, things have been so easy. Thank you for letting me make a comment.

Loved the movie!! Russell & Renee did a fabulous job...& you can't beat having Ron Howard as director. The story was heartwarming (but really intense during the fight scenes)...a really moving story about a hero of the working class family. Without the movie, I may never have heard of James J. Braddock! My mom, who was born in 1924, says she remembers Grandpa listening to the fights on the radio from their home in Metairie, Louisiana. He was a huge fan of James Braddock. I'm so happy to know the story of this fine man and his boxing career!

I believe men like James Braddock
are few and rare.
I believe the world has lost the very essence of dignity and moral fiber.
This man brings hope.
Question.. is he still alive?

Saw the movie the day after my mother's funeral. She had lived through the depression, and it drove home just how tough a life the "working poor" had it in the dirty thirties. James J. is an inspiration, and rightly deserves the title of hero! His family must be proud.
