James J. Braddock - Guestbook

James J. Braddock, World Heavy-Weight Champion

Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.

Great job with the site. I saw the movie and have read a lot of articles on the title fight. Mr Braddock was not only a great boxer, but also, if only 1% of the movie is accruate, he was a great husband and father. I have heard from my grandfather, Robert M. Braddock, how rough it was during the depression era and the things Mr Braddock did for his family during those trying times makes him a true family hero!
I would be very interested in finding out if we have any relationship with your family. I am related to Francis M., David G., and Byron M., and Samuel E. Braddock and Robert M. Braddock. Do any of those names sound familiar to any of your family? If so could you please drop me an e-mail.
Once again you have done Mr Braddock proud with this website. Thank You and God Bless You,
Michael A. Braddock

Just saw the movie and started to read what a great man and inspiration he was. A giant among Irish-America.

My grandmother was Jim Braddock's niece, Ruth Boughton. I would post a link to an interview she did, but it won't let me. Do a yahoo search for Ruth Boughton to read it.

I just finished watching the movie Cinderella Man. What an amazing life! Not just the comeback and beating the unbelievable odds, but the hardships he overcame and the friendships and relationship he developed. Inspiring! The movie was more about an exceptional life than it was about boxing.

It was also great to see the real footage and photos. Thank you for adding it here.

Sicerelly, very very interesting story about a person who reached the top with no resources. It should have been so hard for him and his family to live that situation: fighting for his family and, in second place, for the glory. Afortunately, he reached the glory and could help his family. Con gratulations!!

Sirs:

I've watched "Cinderella Man" at least a dozen times, and read the story of your grandfather even more (old boxing mags, books, websites, etc.) And I just have to thank you all for the wonderful inspiration your grandfather, and this website, have given me.
Anyone who's ever been down on their luck--financially or otherwise--can relate to this incredible story. Your grandda had the guts, the grit, and the integrity to hang in there and keep slugging. That's what makes champions. That's what the Irish are made of. And that's what keeps me going--every day, day in and out.
Thank you for this great gift. And thank God for James J. Braddock--the Bulldog of Bergen. My hero, and my inspiration.

God bless you all,

I know movies are more glittering than real lives but to be an inspiration to something like "Cindrella man", you must be special. I watched this movie after giving a seminar on why the rich never quite understands what the poor suffers and was amazed with the personality of this great man drawn on this plot. If half of it true (and I sincerely belive most is) I think he was one of the greatest man to inspire people who care and people with hope. Thank you for opening this paragraph for me.

I am far too young to have ever watched any of James' fights, but after seeing this movie and reading about James, he is the most inspirational man I have ever read about. I wish I had grown up during his time just to have seen a glimpse of him. Truly a hero and a gentleman.

I grew up in West New York ,North Bergen. How proud I am to say He was our Hero. I played in the park they named in his honor,James J.Braddock Park.My dad was a professional boxer Carl Zullo. I 'm sure my father knew Mr. Braddock. being so close to his home. Well, just wanted you to know I couldn't stop crying when I watch this movie. The best film in years, The best man in a century.Thank you

I recently had the opportunity to watch this movie based on the recommendation of a close friend who knew I enjoy good sports films. After the movie ended I called my friend back and told him that he was mistaken; the movie was outstanding but it was not a sports movie. It was a love story. The love of a man for his wife and children and the love of a country for one of its favorite sons.

I've seen the film "Cinderella Man" before but after watching it last night thought I'd do some research. I'm doing a biopic project on Braddock and comparing him to Jake Lamotta, The Raging Bull.

Thusfar my findings have been interesting to say the least, these are two remarkable fighters for whom I have a lot of respect, both for different reasons though.

Just saw the movie last night and HAD to get on the net and research it... OMG!! You know, apart from the fact that he was a professional boxer, what's stuck with me is what a great family man he was. The strength of character that he and his wife displayed in SUCH hard times is a lesson for us all, who have become soft on the good things in life and often forget to cherish the family and love that God has given to us. Truly inspirational... we are blessed to draw inspiration from his life. Thank you for this website. Good luck!

I recently saw the movie and was so touched by this man. He reminded me so much of my father who was the most decent, honorable and devoted family man I knew. If only there were more men like them, this world would be a much better place to live.

I watched the movie for about the fifth time last night. James J. Braddock was a family man and great American. Hugging his children and giving the government money back were just as emotional scenes as the Max Baer fight. The Baer fight was electric. Best fight movie ever!

I have seen the movie and researched Jimmy's life and he is trully the true thing.
They are probebly no true heroes in this world, but there are the ones who are pretty damn close.
For all of us, a true inspiration.

I have just watched what will automatically go to the top of my most favorite movies. What an inspirational story that had me checking the internet to see whether or not JJB won the fight as I just couldn't stand the suspense!! My best wishes go out to his surviving family members and thanks for your contributions to putting this story on the big screen. A must see for all those who feel they are the lifes underdog.
