I grew up in North Bergen, NJ. I had heard of a fighter from there but didn't know anything about him. Thanks to Ron Howard for making the film & telling the world about him.

I have read everything I have found on James J. Braddock. The only true thing I know for absolute certain is he was one of kind. I don't think there has ever been a more courageous man. It's only fitting that he served his country after he retired from boxing. My grandfather was from new york and worked as a waiter at dempseys restaurant from 1936 until 1940. He also knew most of the fighters who ate there, including JJB and Max Baer. He said Max never showed as much respect to another fighter as he did JJB after their fight in '35. My grandfather was also a betting man. He made a wager with his life savings of $1000(a million during the depression) and placed it on JJB at 10-1. He moved to Indianapolis in 1940 to work for the railroad. If it weren't for that bet I probably wouldn't be here. You see, my grandmother was a passenger coming home on a train that arrived in Indianapolis. My grandfather never placed another bet in his life according to my grandmother. JJB was and is still an inspiration to millions.

As a man who has lived in a wheelchair for the past 22 years, I have to tell you your movie has helped to reignite my desire to walk again! The story of Mr. Braddock is an inspiring one, testimony to intestinal fortitude we all need or should possess. I am in awe of the life of Mr. Braddock, thankful to the family for sharing him and his story with the world, and thankful to the designers of this website for allowing us to share our thoughts about this true American hero. You have no idea what a positive impact you have had upon my life.. Thank you.

I just watched the movie and have to say it is one of the best films I have ever seen. In an era where we are force fed films which glorify deviancy or anti-Americanism like Brokeback Mountain and others, it was refreshing to enjoy a truly inspirational story where we see the rewards of traditional American values like hard work, loyalty, devotion to family, and never giving up. Jim Braddock is really the embodiment of these values and every young person should see this movie to help learn what is important in life. Sometimes your responsibilities make things such that you have to play hurt. Great website - after seeing the movie it's no wonder how the family pride has transcended the generations. (I thought Max Baer was a showman - a telling part of the movie was when he knocked gloves in congratulation after the loss to Braddock. This clearly showed his good sportsmanship, so in my opinion he was not portrayed negatively. The rest was all hype.)

I SAW CINDERELLA MAN LAST NIGHT.
I THOUGHT THE PICTURE WAS TERRIBLE AS YOU PORTRAYED MAX BAER AS A NASTY MAN. IN REALITY BAER WAS A FUNNY AND GOOD MAN WHO NEVER SAID ANYTHING BAD ABOUT ANYONE. I DO NOT LIKE MOVIES THAT TELL LIES.

Most of us will never know how difficult it was to live during the depression; the poverty of all but the human spirit. James Baddock is a role model. Truly he is a man of character, integrity and commitment to all that is missing in our society today. Hopefully we are teaching our children the lessons of honesty and discipline that are exemplified in his life. A wonderful movie and overlooked by Hollywood. I will long remember his life and the love of his life, Mae, who supported him in all that he did and always trusted him to provide for their family. This is more than words can say; a legacy to be proud of.

Words cannot describe how much your life story means to me. I can only hope for the kind of love and determination that Jim and Mae had.

I just saw the movie and it kind a touched me.
I guess its the best boxing movie I saw so far and I saw quite alot.
The only thing that I didn´t like about it was the way Max Baer was characterized.
After I did quite some google research I read a lot about boxers of james Braddocks time and Max Baer was always described as a man who wasn´t a killer but one sensitively person who fell into depression about the death of Frankie Campell.
He afterwards donated money to the Campell family and much later fought Braddock with an injured hand.
Don´t get me wrong I´m absolutely impressed by James Braddocks history, his efforts and his love to his wife and family.
This story can and will be an inspiration to many people including myself.
But concerning the movie the portrait of Max Baer is quite disadvantageously.
