cinderella man,was a great movie, and I too could relate to this story, though i am not a boxer.I went through a very similiar difficult time with my family in the early 80's when layoffs were rampant and familys were struggling to hold on to their homes and stay together.I was layed off eventually in 87' and forced to travel for work to feed my wife and children.I am part Irish and Italion there is not much we wont do to fight to save our familys and insure theyre well being.Eventually times got better in the90's and we were able to all be back together, but at my darkest moments I remember waking up on those cold rainy mornings before work, and feeling like a fighter who was knocked down but had to get up to fight for the survival and love of my wife and kids, ironically my tool partner at work was a boxer from the 40;s an older man nearing retirement who would always have kind words of inspiration for me when I told him of my woes he could always counter it with a pep talk and help me spiritually,so I say to that gracious man Gordan, thank you and you guessed it he was Irish also.

Tonight, as the movie ended and the credits rolled I read that Jimmy had served honorably in WWII. My immediate thought was "of course he did, he was an honorable man".

Wow, I had known some of Jim's history as a boxing fan, but after seeing the recent movie, Cinderella Man, I feel as though I got a real feel for the man and his personal challenges. I asked some elderly uncles about their recollections of Jim in the 20's and 30's. They were avid boxing fans then, were poor, hard-working, and very big fans of his. One of my uncles said that many boxing fans of the day would follow boxers who were of their heritage and nationality. However, Jim seemed to transcend ethnic pride. Both of the uncles are of Italian heritage, and both said they were fans of Jims' because he seemed to represent them; poor, hardworking and somewhat victims of a many times harsh and unfeeling capitalistic system. Despite their advanced age, my uncles have clear and fond memories of many of Jim's fights and career. Thanks!

This is not a great movie, but a great story!!! For anyone who has been down and out, the story of James J. Braddock gives hope and inspiration. In a time when much of our country lives from paycheck to paycheck, and a second depression looms over our heads everyday, CINDERELLA MAN is a beacon of light. James J will forever be my hero!!! Thank you so much for this site.

My husband and I watched the movie last night. What a wonderful man!! I hope when I have children I can raise them with half the morals, drive and guts this man had.
