James J. Braddock, World Heavy-Weight Champion

Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.

Wonderful story of Love, Faith and trust in each other as a family. I never watched boxing nor cared to until now. This story proves that no matter how hard times get there is a rainbow at then end of each journey.

What a great story for every American. Every family member should know of this inspirational man.

A tip of the hat to Jimmy III who I understand is responsible for this site. I will link it to my blog.

What an inspiration!! Sports figures today would do well to study the life of this man to emulate as a role model. Husbands and fathers especially take note....

Jim Braddock is a true American hero, because he never gave up on the American dream- the pursuit of happiness. A reminder to all that nothing is guaranteed in this country. Each one of us must get up everyday, work hard to reach our goals and leave the world a better place, even when we find ourselves down on the canvas.
Godspeed, Jim Braddock.

Great website. Just saw the movie and was very inspired. Glad to see Hollywood can still make accurate movies when they want to. His story should be a reminder to all that you have to take responsibility for your success. Make the best of a situation even if bad things are happening, don't rely on others and if you do, pay back those that helped you.

I am thrilled that I got to learn about your grandfather and your family from the movie. A true family movie. Mr. Braddock's legacy is that of family man and I feel that I learned from him how to be a better father to my three children. Thank you.

A strong reminder of what life is all about, FAMILY. My grandfather, Bob Knox sparred with Max Baer In the late 20's, but he never went pro. This movie gives me a idea of what things were really like back then.

I just saw this terrific movie, I love it! I did not know about him, but after watching the movie , I discovered a new heroe. Everyone should be proud of him . Even more I founded , how beautiful marriage he has with his wife. She was supported and wonderful , I believed the must love each other to death. Mexico is proud of people like jim and his wife.

To you Jimmy, for fighting for your life when you needed to, to bring money home, for the family. Your a real hero, a rare, very rare human. Your soul is living in my heart, and will forever.

With deep gratitude,

I grew up in an irish catholic family listening to stories told by my father & uncles on Sunday afternoons. One that they never tired of retelling was the night Jimmy Braddock defeated Max Barr for title, they would sit around the table and describe in vivid detail as each round was broadcast over the radio. I could almost close my eyes and imagine I was there with them that evening on June 13th 1935. My father and uncles are long since passed away, but this truly great movie let close my eyes and once again be back in my grandmothers house with my father and uncles listening to the greatest fight to ever have been fought.

GREAT MOVIE!!! I actually found myself standing up and cheering for him, even though I live in Max's hometown of Livermore.

Tremendous movie that reminded me of my Grandfather who was from Limerick and fought in NYC as an Irish Imigrant. Really displayed what the Irish Catholic Immigrants stood for - heart. For that matter all Immigrant populations that washed up on New York City's shores. I am a proud Irish - American who loves the sweet science and Ron Howard hit a home run with the depiction of your Grandfather's Life and Heavyweight Championship reign. He was a true Hero to the Immigrants of that time and now thru this movie, 2-3 generations removed.

My husband rented this movie, and I was a little hesitant on watching it at first, but I love boxing or any other kind of sport, especially boxing. I get so excited, it's like I am in the crowd! This movie was excellent from the beginning to the end. Russell Crowe, as always, was so believable and real to be the boxer of James Braddock. Renee Zellwegger, bless her heart, i love her to death and her sweet voice. Toward the end of the movie, I was sitting on the floor with my hands in the praying position, and I had so much adrenaline in me from this movie, that my husband told me to calm down b/c I was swinging, ducking, yelling, and at the very end, crying!! Excellent Movie!!

Just watched the movie for the first time. What a great family! It appears, from reading about his children on this site, that Mr. Braddock and his wife raised them well.

Like so many other guests who have come and left their mark, I enjoyed the movie! It could not have been easy during the Great Depression, but the devotion James and his wife had for each other is what was most poignant in the movie. In this age (2006), it is hard to find two people more devoted the each other and their family. A truly incredible and inspiring story! Thank you for allowing Ron Howard to tell it and for hosting this website.

It's about time someone told the story of one of the many seemingly forgotten personalities of the past! Along with many boxing champions of the Depression Era, Jim Braddock rose from the demoralizing ashes of poverty to epitomize what it means to be called "Champion". His story is just as much about American History as it is about boxing history. Well Done!
