As I watched the movie last night, I could not help but think of my grandparents, my parents and the hardships they went through during the Great Depression. By sharing your family's story with me, you brought me closer to my own family and reminded me of the importance of courage, honesty and hard work.
peace,
kmp

What a great story, but what a TREMENDOUS individual. A hero to his family and an inspiration for all of us that, now, know a little about him. I will library the movie to replay for my children. I will point to the screen and say...."there is your role model."

WOW........Great stuff. I was awaked again last night when I saw the movie to how really great it is to live in America. I am 45 and I grew up listening to folks talk about the tough times of the depression. I was also poor as a kid but never knew it. I took my 10 year old daughter with me to see the movie and found my self having to explain what the depression was. This movie will give a whole generation something to think about. My favorite part was when he said "no matter how bad things get, we don't steal". Thanks to the Braddock family and to Ron Howard are due from this nation. This movie should be required to be seen by all Americans.

We saw Cinderella Man last night and were deeply moved by the courage and integrity of James J. Braddock. Knowing Ron Howard's attention to detail, we felt it was pretty true-to-life and wanted to see the full details of the real man and his family as brought to life on-screen by Howard, Russell Crowe, Rene Zellweger, and the others. We are moved all over again as we honor the true spirit of this great man, a real American Hero, a testament to the true power of Honor, Courage, and Love. Thank you for your work on this site to help us feel his story on a personal level and giving us a chance to say "thank you" to James through you. Now that we know his story, he will always be an inspiration to us.

What a wonderful movie and inspiring story. How many on the "Dole" now would give it back if they no longer needed the money? Everyone seems to think they have it coming. We could learn a valuable lessen from this man and his story.

I have always been a boxing history fan, starting when I was a kid and watching Muhammed Ali. When I would read about the old boxers including Max Baer, I would read their records and see this loss to Braddock. I would look at Braddock's record and say, "well this bum got lucky." I never realized how heroic that climb back to the top actually was. Now, I have become a Braddock fan and thoroughly enjoyed the movie. I feel like an idiot for never realizing that Braddock was a real champ and not a lucky puncher.

My father Bill Dollar who passed away on May 12, 2005 at the age of 86 was a golden gloves boxer as a young man, and loved read about the great champions of the past. James Braddock was one of his hero's. Thanks for developing this wonderful web site on a true champion!

Notice in the Movie that no matter how down on his luck Jim was, he never once complained about the government.

Your grandfather was a great example to all of us husbands and fathers. His courage and that of his wife Mae was incredible. His determination in the ring and as a humble provider for his family is a true inspiration in every way. It was great to experience this glimpse of your grandfather in such a beautifully crafted film. Though I am sure Ron Howard took some creative license, I was so moved to see that he portrayed Mr. Braddock as a grateful, gracious man and as a gentle giant to so many in America at that time. His story allows all of us to ponder how grateful we should always be for the blessings of America.

The film Cinderella Man is a magnificent piece of work which provides memorable glimpses of a real man from a different era. As much as I admire his inner as well as his physical strength, I deplore our current crop of political lightweights who continue to try to erase from our history the noble efforts of Franklim D. Roosevelt, a wealthy man who could feel for the sufferings of the average working man.

I saw this movie tonight with my oldest son and his dad. Neither one wanted to go but did. I was amazed how packed the theater was. Mostly with older people. I wasn't sure how the story was going to end because I didn't know Mr. Braddocks story. It is a fantastic, endearing, memorable movie. I want to meet Mr. Braddock when I pass. He is an amazing man. It amazed me how this man moved so many people. Thank God for heroes like him. During the movie and towards the end I noticed how I and others were about to jump out of our seats as if it was a real match. I loved Mae's character too. What a great American tale. Thank You So Much, Mr. Braddock.

I just saw Cinderella Man, and it is by far the best movie I've seen in my life. This is the first movie that could give me chills up and down my spine, it was that good. The thing that amazed me the most was it is based on a true story.

I'm almost 54 years old and have always detested fighting but I went to Cinderella Man tonight because I remembered my dad having so much admiration for Jim Braddock. Now I understand why. I have never been in a theatre in Portland where the audience erupted into applause but we did tonight. I hope we can all benefit from our hard times and let them make us stronger. Thanks to everyone who made this film possible. Pete's daughter, Janet

I am a simple housewife with children and because of this one man's life I came home to appreciate my husband. Because much like James J. Braddock, he is also a man of integrity. Thank you for reminding me that we must be grateful for the few good men that are with us.

It was an extreme story about extreme courage. Very inspiring movie and Russel Crowe played the role with extreme talent. I came away with extreme respect for the true talent of a man who knew nothing about being a loser. He had the heart of a champion all along. I hope those as myself can take a lesson from this each and every time we think the going gets tough. Thank you for this website, there is much to learn. Thank you Mr. Braddock.

I just saw "Cinderella Man"...WOW!!This was one amazing man with an incredible circle of family and friends helping him to realize his dream. The entire theater audience burst into applause at the end of this incredible movie! Bravo to all who had a part in making it come to life for all of us who did not know Mr. Braddock's story. Thanks to the family members who keep this site going and his memory alive for future generations. This is the ultimate story of Americans surviving the toughest times with class and courage. Maybe James J. Braddock should be voted "Greatest American"!

I don't know which was the better display of heroism by James Braddock; the battle inside of the ring or battling the great depression and keeping his family together. Wonderful Story. This was the Rudy of Boxing.
