James J. Braddock - Guestbook
Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.
I lived in North Bergen until the age of 20. My parents grew up either in North Bergen or in nearby Jersey City. I had to idea that Mr. Braddock lived in North Bergen. It wasn't until I saw Russell Crowe wear a jacket embroidered with the name North Bergen that my curiousity was peak and I found your web site to learn additional information. Thank you.

Amazing movie. Incredibly moving. I wish I could've known James J. Braddock and I wish there were more men like him in the world. More men should be as devoted, loving family men as James was. I'm incredibly moved. This movie was classy. It's wonderful to see a GREAT movie that doesn't have all of the smut in it that most of todays movies have!

We just went to see "Cinderella man" last night-previous to that I had never heard of James Braddock. What a wonderful movie -he was quite the man, doing all he could to keep his family together during those difficult times. What an inspiration for our young people today- a real honest to God hero,a loving family man-truly a man to be proud of -he was a legand in his time.

My Grandfather watched this fight (June 13th, 1935 Baer vs Braddock) and he would tell me about it, many times over when I was a youth. I didn't realize it was the same fight as depicted in the Cinderella Man! Then during the fight sequence, I started to recall the details that my Grandfather so enthusiastically related to me in the 1980s -- 45 years after they actually occurred! It left an indelible impression on him -- and why not? My Grandfather, Robert A. Gray, was working 3 jobs trying to support a wife and 3 children, watching this fight from a perch in a neighboring train yard (where he use to work as a welder) He couldn't afford a ticket to get in!!!
Thanks to Ron Howard, the Braddock Family, and all who brought this amazing story to the Big Screen. You made us all smile :-)

Did they really listen to the match in church? I live just south of Saipan, where Mr. Braddock served. (It is not in the South Pacific, but north of the equator within the chain of islands known as the Marianas.) Another inspiring film from Ron Howard. We need more films like this.

I just saw the movie and am awed that such a story could be true. After esearching Mr Braddock's life, it appears that Ron Howard has stayed true to the facts (with some fudging with the time line ). I am truly impressed and, well, proud to be Irish!

Life is not only a journey but can also be an adventure. Something I'm sure Braddock knew more then most.

My wife and I saw the movie last week and were very impressed with the life Mr. Braddock led. The strength to keep going despite obstacles is a lesson we all need today. I love boxing but truly feel that what made Mr. Braddock so great was his integrity, honesty, loyalty and his drive to never give up. I am now pushing my sons to go see the movie to learn a good life lesson.
Thanks for this great movie and website!

To the Braddock Family...Thank you for your incredible contribution (your father, grandfather's example!) Thank you for having this website. What a great sanctuary to be able to come to honor and experience a true legend! Thank you to Ron Howard...we have been huge fans(since Andy Griffith!) and expected only the best! Ron, you always blow us out of the water! Thank you for the the magnificent manner in which you portrayed this amazing person! The honesty, intergrity, vulnerability, humility, hard work, heart, soul of a man all were so meticulously presented! Thank you for an incredible and inspirational story of someone that was so ordinary and yet so great! And then he serves his country and starts his business...talk about the living the American dream...Jim Braddock....thank God for you!

My wife and I went to see the movie of the life of Jim Braddock. We were to young to remember him. Most men would have given up, Jim wanted the best for his family and he fought for it. Very insperational film, well done.

I was off today and decided to go to the movies. I wanted to watch a comedy but at the last minute chose to watch Cinderella Man: men, did I make the right choice!!! I must tell you I'm 34 and I was crying. It is unbelievable to see such courage and determination from a man that had all odds against him. The way he and his wife stuck together to defeat all sorts of difficulties. Mr. Braddock was indeed a great champion and a great man. I'm not Irish but I'm proud that he was born in NY. Great web site, keep the good work.

Took my 88 year old neighbor to see the movie yesterday. What a beautiful story about a real hero. We need more James Braddocks! My neighbor remembers the fight...he was a junior in high school...

I read the book on your father and saw the movie cinderella man. Your father showed great character, during the years of struggle, and years after. If only the atheletes today had half as much.

JUST SAW THE MOVIE CINDERELLA MAN. VERY GOOD BUT NOT TRUE TO FACTS. I HAVE THE ORIGINAL MOVIE IN 16MM FILM ABOUT THE BAER/BRADDOCK FIGHT. BAER CAME INTO THE FIGHT WITH TWO BAD HANDS. ALSO, HE REALLY DID NOT WANT TO FIGHT THAT NIGHT FOR SOME REASON. IF BAER WOULD HAVE FOUGHT THEY WOULD HAVE NEVER GO TO ROUND 2. ALSO, BAER WAS A COLORFUL FIGHTER AND IN REALITY WAS A GREAT GUY NEVER WOULD HE SAY THOSE THINGS TO MAE BRADDOCK. LEARN YOUR HISTORY RON HOWARD. WHY DON'T YOU MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT MAX BAER, THE GUY WAS GREAT, FUNNY AND A CREDIT TO HUMAN RACE.
