James J. Braddock, World Heavy-Weight Champion

Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.

Saw the movie last night and loved it. I knew about Mr. Braddock because I was born and raised in Hudson County and still live here. He is a legend here as well as around the country. They always talk about Sinatra coming from Hoboken..Now the world will know about the Boxer from North Bergen. As a family you must be very proud as we are as fans.

I have never been more fascinated by a story/movie before. I will have to tell you honestly, I came away from theatre feeling more inspired and content with life than I ever have before. I was reminded to be thankful for all that I have and to never give up hope on all the things I aspire to achieve. Thank you!

It is not often that you see a movie that makes you grateful for what you have! Kudos once again to Ron Howard for a wonderful and heartfelt story! As a baby boomer, I was glad to have the opportunity to get a glimpse of the depression and the real struggles that the Braddocks had to face. Jim Braddock was a proud and special man so it was no wonder that the people called him their hero! I don't think anyone could go through today what he did, I admire the man that he was and was proud to be able to pay tribute to him! Thank you for this website.

JJB- Saw the movie yesterday! What a great man and inspiration for all of us. At agre 51 Why didn't I (we) know more about this man. In the age of sports figures like Latrelle Sprewell, Terrel Owens and many other poor excuses for men, the Jim Braddock story was good medicine for me and I think society as a whole. You will recall Sprewell in a contract negotiaton battle took to the podium and said " how do you expect me to feed my family on $14 million per year." To watch Braddock's courage and perseverance in whethering the hardships of the Great Depression and to maintain his poise and dignity as did most othe Americans at that time was a wake-up call for all of us. He is my new hero! NH

Just saw the movie and was most impressed. Thank you for the epilog of Mr. Braddock and especially his family. It is a great story. Max Baer's son became the acotr who played Jethro on "The Beverly Hillbillies," I believe. Best wishes to you. Maybe you could write a book?

I just saw Cinderella Man today. What a great story. It's 2:30 a.m., but I just had to go online to learn more. James Braddock's story is so much better than the usual movie fare. He was a man of true moral values and dignity. I'm sure he passed that on to his children. I understand this kind of man. My father is one of them. For that I have truly been blessed. Thank you for sharing his story and all the photos on this website.

I LOVED THE MOVIE,BUT I DIDN'T LIKE THE WAY MR. BEAR WAS DEPICTED. i REMEMBER HIM AS A FUNNY MAN AND HE TOOK THE TIME TO SHAKE MY HAND IN I943, I WAS TWELVE YEARS OLD. HE ALSO WAS A RADIO HOST IN THE MORINGS FROM THE CLIFF HOUSE IN SAN FRANCISCO. I BELIVED HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A GREAT HEAVYWEIGHT,IF HE HADN'T KILLED THOSE FIGHTERS IN THE RING. CHECK IT OUT.. MARCO,, STILL A GREAT MOVIET THANK YOU....

In your paragraph: “On the evening of June 13th 1935 at Madison Square Garden in Long Island City NY, Braddock, a ten-to-one underdog, entered the ring to face Baer. Jim had studied Baer's boxing style just as Tommy Loughran had studied Jim's all those years ago. Jim new he could beat Baer if he could stay away from his hammering right hand, and that's just what he did. In an amazing feat of courage and determination, Braddock won the 15 round decision to become the new heavyweight champion of the world.” In the sentence “Jim new he could beat Baer…” the word “new” should be spelled “knew”. Just thought you should know. BTW, I saw the movie Cinderella Man and was at the edge of my seat throughout the movie!

I have not seen the movie yet, only a few trailers. The trailers inspired me to look up James J. Braddock's biography. He was truly a great man because of how much he loved his family. I cried as my son and I watched the movie clips. I can honestly say that I have never been more inspired.

This evening I had the honor of sharing JAMES J. BRADDOCK biography. As an Israeli I know the unparallel power of a prevailing underdog. JJB's life story as featured in the recent "Cinderella Man" movie, had touched and inspired me and my friends. Defiantly an admirable figure.

I had just seen the inspirational movie "Cinderella Man". I praise Ron Howard for trying to accurately portray the essence of Mr. Braddock. The movie is sure to go down as a classic. We need more movies like this that teaches us the importance of courage, and character.
