I just saw again the movie and was moved to visit your site. This is a great link to a time in history that our parents lived through and inspired us to over come any obstacle with faith and hard work.
JJB inspired the local folks and this country to do so, too. One of my great influences grew up in Jersey City at around the same time. I hadn't connected her with these historical events until now.
She may have been inspired by JJB, too. Her name was Sarah Nagler and she and her family may well have been neighbors. They had a dry goods store in the area and also overcame adversity when their father died. A sister lives in Tucson and a niece teaches at Princeton.
Unfortunately, Sara Joffe (nee Nagler) died in July 2004, before the movie was released.

James braddock was in 2 words, an inspirational hero. The life he lived was hard at times and triumphal at times, but regardless of what Mr. Braddock faced, he faced it dignity and honor. Truly and honorable man.

I truely enjoyed the movie. The man had heart and soul. If only we would all have that kind of courage and determination, and a great spouse to go with it.

Jay, How are you? I'm so glad you have this website, and so glad your grandfather received the recognition he deserved. I can remember you talking about him when we were kids!!! I saw the movie quite a while ago, and thought of you all again when I saw ad in paper for something going on at library. Send me an e-mail if you can, I'd love to catch up without the rest of your GrandDads fans having to listen to me going on and on!! Hope all is well.

Read about Braddock's heroic boxing career years ago. But his value is not just in the sport, he's just a great American.

I teach American History. I use the movie, Cinderella Man, when discussing the Stock Market Crash/Great Depression. There are many great benefits from the film that speak to young people on a personal level. I've seen it several times and still get inspired myself. Thank you Braddock family.

Iv had a hard life, many bumps, many downs, but knowing Braddock got threw it and made it too the top after everthing hes done, insperational. Gatta hand it too ya, it was truly an accomplishment. I plan too do the same and make a name for myself.

I just read that Polly tunney who was the wife of Gene Tunney just passed away at age 100. Almost none of that generation are still around. I hope people understand that Braddock, Baer, Loughran were real people with real families. Tommy Loughran was my uncle and he has been gone sine 1982. They were men of great character and gifted individual who one would have been proud of even if they never were boxers.

Your grandfather was such a wonderful person and his legacy lives on! I teach high school English. I am showing the movie to a Business and Finance Academy English class. I am integrating the movie with a writing assignment and a business leadership lesson. The students have enjoyed it tremendously and I will certainly use this lesson again! Thank you!!

My U.S. History class will use excerpts from the movie in their study of events from the great depression. This is one of the best depictions of life during that era. Thank you for your contribution to history.

James III & John,

This is a terrific site. Your grandfather would be very proud. I live in Guttenberg, NJ which borders West New York and North Bergen. My 6 year old son plays in the park named for your grandfather. He has seen the film and knows the connection to the park's namesake. James Braddock's legacy shall live on! Kudos!

Nice site. I saw the movie when it came out and was very impressed with it. I have an original Newspaper that is in grat shape dated June 13th, 1933. The front-page is "Baer vs Braddock" , "New Champ" it has a print set of the two fighters facing off and several articles and quotes from sports writers of the day. I have had it for many years, never thought they would make the movie though. It would have been a nice piece of memorabelia to loan the film set. Oh well. Now a new generation knows the story.
