James J. Braddock - Guestbook
Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.
I, like many others who have posted here, watched the movie (life) of JJB. I was flipping through channels and came across what I thought was another "boxing" movie. I can sincerely say that the limited portion of the Braddock life I was privied to see moved me more than most any I have ever seen. I wish people these days lived there lives with as much pride, dignity, and perseverance as JJB did.

I, like many others that have left messages, have just finished watching the movie about this great man and felt compelled to do a little more research. While Hollywood takes its liberties in adding to the drama, they didnt seem to take it too far out of text, thank goodness. A true champion in and out of the ring. Great website, Thanks again.

I was just channel surfing and the movie was on. I have seen it several times and loved it but was moved this time to look up more information on Mr. Braddock. What is more amazing than the movie, is the real man's story. What a tribute to a great man and father. I am sure that he would be proud that so many people still think of him as an inspiration. God bless you.

Reading and learning of Mr. Braddock has made me want to be a more dedicated father and a better person. James Braddock is truly an inspiration of inner strength and determination to what is most important to me, . . . my children. Thanks for posting the guestbook. May God bless all of those related to Mr. Braddock both past and present.

Mr father, James A. Partington II, was born in Flushing, NY in 1900. The two fights he attended in his life and always talked about were the fight between James J. Braddock & Max Baer and the second Dempsey Tunney fight when he lived in Chicago. He saved the ticket stubs for both fights and to this day I still keep looking for them. I always remember seeing them as a child and have looked for them on and off through the years. However, the inspirational film Cinderella Man has made my quest to find this memoribilia greater. My father, who was an athlete and boxed at NY University, always remarked what a great fighter (not just a boxer) James Braddock was. Although the movie somewhat embelishes the fights he was definitely an inspiration. The movie makes me realize just how tough times were for my father and Mr. Braddock
Great website!!!
If I ever find those stubs I will let you know!!

Braddock's dedication to his family and career was so moving and inspirational. Our first child (boy) will be born in January. His middle name will be Braddock, after a courageous, hard working and determined man.

You should all be proud, a story to be told for years and one that makes many feel after watching it as the people then felt for him, great admiration.

I was about 8 years old and living in a house with my grandparents and my great-grandfather. My Great Grandfather was an entrepreneur and an ex-hotel owner. Back in the 20's and 30's he owned a hotel by the railroad in Peekskill, N.Y. Sports figures used to come up by train from the city and stay at the hotel. He retired but kept up with the various sports figures until he died in 1948. One day, my Father came upstairs to get me because he wanted me to meet someone who was downstairs. I went down and there stood a very tall man, holding a cigar and a shot of whiskey. My Father introduced me to him, saying: "This is Jim too. Son, this is the heavyweight champ of the world, Jim Braddock. " I shook hands with him and to this day, I haven't forgotten it.

This site you made as a tribute to your grandfather is wonderful! My grandfather was a NYC police officer during the time your grandfather was the heavyweight champion, and was a very big boxing fan! I don't remember him telling me any Jim Braddock stories, but I would guess he was a big fan. Your grandfather's story is amazing -- I'm sure you're very proud of him!

Recently, I saw the Cinderella Man for the first time. Needless to say, I was intrigued by James J. Braddock's story. My father was born in the 1921 (and now deceased) and although he was bit younger in age than Jim, he experienced life during the "not so great" Depression. And like James B J. Braddock, he triumphed over those hard times. Kudos to Russell Crowe for portraying Mr. Braddock in such a respectful manner and rekindling the feeling of hope and inspiration in all who saw this movie. This is the kind of person that we America's are in desperate need of today. Our youth should have a role model like Jim Braddock. He stands for all that is good in America and the world for that matter. I was moved by Russell Crowed performance and know that it most likely only was the tip of the iceburg when it came to all that Jim stood for. I was moved when Jimmy got his second chance in life and deservedly so rose above what the public though as the underdog. Boy, they were certainly wrong. It's good to still read that Jim was still hailed as one of the most couragous boxers of the 20th Century and a man with a lot of heart. Obviouslyt, I never met James J. Braddockl but if I did, I know he would have touched my life as he seemed to do so for so many others. Thank you James Braddock. You stand for all the good in this world!!

I couldn't waste the chance to sign Mr. Braddock's guest book.
I love boxing and got even more excited about learning how to fight and training after watching Cinderella Man; he was just great, brave, honest, a real inspiration for all fighters all around the world; and principally for box fighters from Brazil that fight for nothing more than the hope to give a better life to their families.
God bless James J. Braddock; the greatest champion of the world!!!
