I won an amateur boxing bout by unanimous decision at Muskegon, Michigan around August 19th 1968. Guess who hands me the winners trophy but none other than the Cinderella man himself. I got to meet him and shake his big hand. He gave good boxing advice such as, "Box with everybody" you learn so much when boxing with every kind and size...I can't remember the exact words. A very memorable experience for a 16 year old. My kids have heard this story many times. Thanks Mr Braddock for being there that cool August night.

My family has lived in West New York for over 55years, actually in the same house. I was wondering if anyone had the address of Mr James Braddock's address while he lived here. We also attended St Joseph's of the Palisades and are still going there.

I had to learn more about Mr. Braddock after watching "Cinderella Man" in between housework breaks today. What an inspiration! I'll have to watch it again with no interruptions. One scene that really caught my attention was the one when the oldest son had stolen a stick of meat from the neighborhood butcher's shop. Mr. Braddock and son return the meat, and the lesson of honesty is taught. Many people would have kept the stolen goods, said it was for a good cause, afterall, they were hungry. No, it is never right to do wrong, and stealing is wrong. Mr. Braddock took time to teach his son about the importance of honest living. That's what I call a true man of integrity! He didn't stoop to do wrong in the face of adversity. His parents must have taught him well, and he passed those truths on to his children. I hope his example will influence parents all over the world to realize the importance of taking time to teach their children basic values. Great accomplishment! Great website! Great inspiration! Thanks!

dear sir, i grew up in new york city in the 1960's and i believe this man was what it was all about back in the building days of our country. he is an amercian hero! my grandfather who was born in 1908 and lived until he was 80 used to be a sparring partner in new york city for a boxer named kid chocolate. his flat nose would attest to that fact! i very much respect the older generation of people that had to endure that difficult time in our countries history. gregg

Just watched the movie again for the 3rd time. I get choked up every time Mr. Braddock pretends to not be hungry because of a dream and gives the food to Rosemarie. I pray that I will be seen by my family as that type of husband and father. He was truly a MAN.

First I want to congratulate the men who put this site together and manage it. Great job and the honor that Jim Braddock exemplified clearly continues in his bloodlines. I never tire of hearing and seeing this story. I actually just watched the entire actual Baer vs. Braddock on Utube. Here in America we love stories like Jim's because it speaks to the root at the heart of our nation's people. Guts, determination, never giving up... and always getting up when you've been knocked down. Down, but NEVER OUT!
A true hero to his family and his country. Look around folks, heros are still among us all, all over this world... maybe there is a hero in you? Don't let anything stop you from achieving your dreams! Thanks again for a super job with this website guys.

I saw the movie Cinderalla Man for the frst time last night, and again today, and am unusally moved and inspired by Mr. Braddock's life and what he stood for - not only for himself, but his family, community, and country.
Russell Crowe did an amazing portrayal, and I will be adding this movie to my library!

My mom grew up in Guttenberg, New Jersey during the time Jimmy Braddock was fighting and lived there. He was a favorite of the hers and the neighborhood children. My grandfather's shoemaker business was one of the local gathering spots. When they saw Jimmy approaching them on the sidewalk, they would run to him crying out, "Swing me, Jimmy! Swing me!" Mom says he would pick her up, allowing her body to swing in space as a pendulum would. He was a patient man, never tiring of their game.
