James J. Braddock - Guestbook
Welcome to the official guestbook of the James J Braddock website. Due to spam, we have been forced stop guestbook entries.
I have watched this very moving portrayal of your father and your family many times, tonite I shared it with my 86 year old father who was orphaned at age 14 in 1934. He was so moved by the complete story that as a child he had never known, what a wonderful, hopeful, timeless gift you have shared with us all. Thank you.

The past few months I find myself watching this movie everyday on HBO and everytime it seems to have more meaning. Unbelievable courage prompted by a will to survive for all the right reasons. An american hero and an inspiration to all Americans. God Bless and thank you JJ Braddock!

Courage, determination, strength and, of course, Heart... Still a beacon of hope to many, including me, and a beautiful human being who truly defines the word: Man. God Bless Jim and every generation of his family!

It's people like James J. Braddock that should be studied in schools. Honesty, Integrity, and a true will to survive. The movie is wonderful. Thank you for telling your grandfathers story.

What a great movie!! my poor husband was beside himself the whole time. It hit him hard to imagine having to promise your boy not to send him away, only to break that promise and to be completely hopeless and willing to degrade himself for handouts to help your family survive. As my husband says " it had him down on one knee"

James Braddock was a dedicated Father,Husband and American Citizen. To me his boxing skills were secondary to the great values he displayed all his life. I know you are very proud of your father and I appreciate the opportunity to be proud of him as well. God bless his memory

His middle name was Walter (I think) but Joe Gould wanted him to sound like other greats boxers before him like Jack Dempsey. I think people would know his name better as James J. Braddock. I think that is what one of his biographers said.

To anyone who's had to fight, whether it be a disease, poverty, ignorance, or personal demons, Mr. Braddock is an inspiration to keep fighting until the battle is won.
May God continue to bless his family.

MY grandfather who is now 88 years old remembers every title fight like it was yesterday. He is at a point in his life where he forgets a lot. But he never forgot Jimmy Braddock. Its funny, My grandfather was an amatuer boxer in Jersey City, worked on the same docks as James braddock did during the depression and he even looks like James Braddock. To say that James J. Braddock was an inspiration to my grandfather is an understatment. I took him to see the movie last year. He sat on the edge of his seat like he was watcing the fights in the Garden or Jersey City back in his day. Great movie. Great life story.

Just a short message. My father recalls sitting in his living room as a boy and listening to the fights on the radio. One night, his father, a San Francisco Police Officer, came home in a tizzy. He told my grandmother, "He killed him. Max Baer killed him." He was refering to the fight against Jimmy Campbell at Seals Stadium in SF. A few years later, they listened in utter disbelief as Jimmy Braddock, the pride of the Irish throughout the US, even in SF, took out "the killer."
Jimmy Braddock was quite a man.

How wonderful that they produced a movie to recognize this outstanding man. How proud his family must be! The only thing that could beat watching this movie about his life would be to have had the honor of meeting him.

Just wanted to thank you for running this website. I boxed a bit myself in my youth, and have been a devoted fan for as long as I can remember ( I am 52). I have watched the movie 7 times now, and have to tell you that the more I look at this, the more I feel that the match between James J. and Baer may have been the greatest boxing match in history, all things considered.
What a great man he was, and what an inspiration! May God Bless you and yours.

I've watched the movie two times now and now I understand why my father (born in 1897) talked so much about Jimmy Braddock as a man and the Bear fight. I'm originally from northern New Jersey and have read about Mr. Braddock many times in the Bergan Record. You should be very proud of him and this excellent website in his memory.
